Okay, I’m at a loss. Hybrid vehicles, OOOH AHHH environmentally friendly… I don’t think so….

So if we look at a hybrid that is build for fuel efficiency we notice that they get approximately twice the mileage of their gas equivalent. Not exactly, but close enough. If we look at an FFV, they get slightly worse mileage when running e85, but e85 is only 15% GAS! let’s think here, 15% vs. 50%. Uhmm … isn’t this a NO BRAINER???? Seems like FFV is clearly the way to go. No batteries, no UGLY hybrid badges, no dependance on foreign oil. And E85 actually burns cleaner.

So why isn’t e85 more popular. Not sure. If you search for e85 gas stations you’ll find that if you live in Los Angeles, that your nearest e85 stations is in San Diego. For you non LA types that’s approximately a 100 mile drive. If you live in Las Vegas, the “bad place on the planet”, we find that there are 7 stations IN Las Vegas!!!!! Way to go CA.

Why aren’t there more E85 / FFV vehicles? Good question. And the answer is? About the only car that seems to take this seriously is the Mercedes C230. ALL C230s are E85 compatible. When you search for other vehicles, they yap about whine about “check the vin, only some are FFV, wahhh wahhh wahhh!!!” Come on ….
